Kuo: Apple Watch Series 8 will measure body temperature

Apple has canceled plans to add a body temperature sensor to the Apple Watch Series 7, but the feature may come to the next model.

On his Twitter account, Kuo has Explain that Apple had already intended to integrate the body temperature measurement function into the Apple Watch Series 7, but the company abandoned the plans when the algorithm that managed the temperature did not meet the requirements of precision just before the device enters the technical validation test phase.

According to Kuo, the Apple Watch Series 8 due out by the end of 2022 is expected to incorporate this feature, allowing users to measure body temperature directly from the wearable device.

Apple’s problems with body temperature measurement are said to be that skin temperature varies rapidly depending on the environment, and as a smartwatch is unable to monitor core body temperature using of hardware, data management is highly dependent on the algorithm to produce accurate results.

Kuo added that Samsung also faces similar challenges with body temperature measurement, saying the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 might not come with this feature due to algorithmic limitations.
