Kretschmann advertises planned fuel cell factory – Baden-Württemberg

Stuttgart/Weilheim an der Teck. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann is obviously concerned about the future of Baden-Württemberg as a business and technology location. Almost two weeks before a referendum on a new commercial area with a fuel cell factory in Weilheim an der Teck (Esslingen district), he wanted to promote the project on site. The Greens politician will meet on Tuesday (from 5 p.m.) with representatives from Cellcentric, a joint venture between truck manufacturer Daimler Truck and Volvo that wants to build the factory, as well as local politicians and citizens. The vote on the project is scheduled for April 24th.

A spokesman for Kretschmann said in advance that the fuel cell is one of the key technologies for a climate-neutral future. “The train hasn’t left here yet. No country in the world has yet reached mass production. We have a real chance there. The economic map is being redrawn.” Kretschmann wants Baden-Württemberg to remain a strong high-tech location. When it comes to land use, you have to look at the whole picture and weigh it up wisely: enable future-oriented settlements, but at the same time reduce land use.

Alternative drives for heavy trucks

According to Cellcentric, it wants to develop alternative drives for heavy trucks. The population should vote on whether the approximately 30 hectare “Rosenloh” commercial area should be built and made available for local companies and companies with climate-related technologies.

The possible factory is to be built on a 15-hectare site in the industrial park. If the citizens decide to designate the area, construction work could start next year and production by early 2026 at the latest, according to a Cellcentric spokeswoman. Information on the amount of the possible investment was not given. Around 800 people are expected to work there.

After approval for the wind farm near Schömberg: Now the critics are speaking out

Mayor Johannes Züfle had declared that the city would get a huge development opportunity with the settlement of a large technology company. Opponents of the project, on the other hand, criticized the project’s large land use, he said. «Land is precious, also in Weilheim. Precisely because soil is precious, also in the Rosenloh area, we want to weigh it up very carefully.”
