Stuttgart/Weilheim an der Teck. Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann is obviously concerned about the future of Baden-Württemberg as a business and technology location. Almost two weeks before a referendum on a new commercial area with a fuel cell factory in Weilheim an der Teck (Esslingen district), he wanted to promote the project on site. The Greens politician will meet on Tuesday (from 5 p.m.) with representatives from Cellcentric, a joint venture between truck manufacturer Daimler Truck and Volvo that wants to build the factory, as well as local politicians and citizens. The vote on the project is scheduled for April 24th.
A spokesman for Kretschmann said in advance that the fuel cell is one of the key technologies for a climate-neutral future. “The train hasn’t left here yet. No country in the world has yet reached mass production. We have a real chance there. The economic map is being redrawn.” Kretschmann wants Baden-Württemberg to remain a strong high-tech location. When it comes to land use, you have to look at the whole picture and weigh it up wisely: enable future-oriented settlements, but at the same time reduce land use.
Alternative drives for heavy trucks
According to Cellcentric, it wants to develop alternative drives for heavy trucks. The population should vote on whether the approximately 30 hectare “Rosenloh” commercial area should be built and made available for local companies and companies with climate-related technologies.
