Kremlin speaks of shame after moving Champions League final to Paris

This morning the Uefa held an extraordinary meeting to decide on the new venue for the Champions League final. With the move to Paris, the Kremlin issued a note criticizing the decision.

According to information from Agence France-Presse (AFP), the change of location was not appreciated in Russia. Petersburg’s move to Paris for the Champions League final was described as “shameful” by the Kremlin.

The European institution discarded Saint Petersburg as its headquarters after Russia invaded Ukraine at dawn yesterday. With this, the Stade de France will host the finalists of the Champions League.

Before hitting the hammer for Paris, Uefa also considered England and Spain, but as France has the fewest clubs competing in the Champions League (PSG and Lille), they understood that the Stade de France had a better chance of being considered a neutral location. In addition, it seems that the initiative of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, was decisive in the choice.
