Kowalczyk on TOK FM on Wednesday was questioned about PiS President Jarosław Kaczyński’s statement from October this year. with regard to potential redemption of the Żabka chain.
The Minister of Agriculture recalled that the government, in accordance with the Law and Justice program, has created a food holding company: Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza.
When asked if KGS had any plans for Żabka, he replied, “He plans to be able to do something on the market”. “Krajowa Grupa Spożywcza has proven itself very well when it comes to buying grain. Unfortunately, it was founded only in May, so we don’t have many tools yet, but we want to equip it with other tools, for example a fertilizer distributor. It will create a trading network ? I’d like to, but I wouldn’t give a specific example here,” said the deputy prime minister.
“If a network wants to sell, we’ll talk. (…) We are not specifically talking to anyone, but we are happy to acquire any chain of grocery stores” – said the head of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

He added that Żabka was cited as an example by the PiS chairman. “Indeed, this example is good, but whether it will materialize, whether it will be this particular network or another, whether it will be its own network or cooperation with other national ones, is not certain, but it is really the target model ” – he said Kowalczyk.
This was stated by the president of PiS in October in Puławy among the tasks declared by the PiS, “take back” from the hands of foreign capital the most strategic parts of our economy”. He added that the process “continues to progress”. “At present, the decision has probably been made that these electric networks of railway lines, a large enterprise with a large electricity transmission network, will be bought up in a very short time by one of the American funds. The same fund (CVC Capital Partners – PAP) is the owner of Żabka. These Żabka stores can also be bought back,” Kaczyński said at the time.
