Koleje Dolnośląskie investments on credit, but they will

Hundreds of millions of zlotys will be lent to the regional carrier mBank. Finding financing is a milestone in the planned purchases of new rolling stock. Koleje Dolnośląskie intends to buy over a dozen new trains to service the area of Wrocław and the 15 closest communes.

MBank will lend PLN 170 million for the purchase of new trains and PLN 59 million for the payment of VAT on this transaction.

The borrowed money will be the own contribution of the Lower Silesian carrier, enabling the purchase of 11 new warehouses that are to service Wrocław and 15 neighboring municipalities. The rest of the amount needed will come from EU money.

KD President Damian Stawikowski emphasizes that the contracts were concluded on favorable terms, and finding financing will accelerate the arrival of new trains on the tracks. The decision to grant the loan was taken by mBank because it decided that the railway company’s development opportunities made it credible.

Earlier, in June, Koleje Dolnośląskie decided to purchase 5 five-unit electric depots from Pesa in Bydgoszcz for PLN 29 million each. The railway company has still not announced how to settle the tender for the purchase of diesel and hybrid trains. For each of the two two-section diesel trains, Pesa wanted PLN 21.4 million. Newag valued one hybrid train at PLN 28.2 million. The regional carrier planned to purchase such 2 three-unit vehicles.

Stawikowski decided that obtaining financing was the most difficult stage of the investment and ensured that KD would make decisions on further purchases in the near future.
