Passages of the first episode of the new edition of Koh-Lanta entitled “The Secret Weapons” scandalized viewers who alerted PETA. The association for the defense of animals has decided to denounce the actions of a candidate in a letter addressed to TF1.
The sequences in question show the candidate Arnaud attacking a ray with a machete and trampling on a moray eel.

“Like many viewers who told us of their discontent and indignation, we were shocked to see acts of cruelty to animals in the first episode of this season of ‘Koh-Lanta'”, writes the association .
“Seeking to fish, one of the participants tries to attack a ray with a machete, which he ends up throwing awkwardly at the animal, which manages to escape without us knowing if it has been injured. Later, he is seen hitting a moray eel with a spear and then trampling on it, while it struggles and tries to bite it (…) These are intolerable practices towards sentient beings, which we know well, feel fear and pain. “
“Torturing and killing animals on screen is an extremely immoral way of trying to attract viewers, especially at a time when respect for animals is increasingly important to everyone,” PETA says indignantly. “In addition, it sends a harmful message to younger people, who view these cruel scenes that are passed off as entertainment.”
