Koenigsegg has set a new circuit record, it is said to have happened by accident – News

The Koenigsegg Jesko is one of the most extreme road cars you can buy today. This is especially true for the Attack version, which, thanks to a higher emphasis on downforce, is designed directly for circuit romps, while the Koenigsegg Absolut version mainly aims for maximum speed.

The impressive capabilities of the Koenigsegg Attack are also confirmed by the recently set record time on the Swedish Gotland Ring circuit, where the car company was originally headed only for testing and marketing. Test driver Niklas Lilja at the wheel, however, managed to conquer the circuit in 2:56.97 during the drive, which was recorded by three cameras and RaceLogic devices.

By seven seconds, he beat the previous record of 3:04.83, which was set by Manthey Racing’s Porsche 911 GT3 RS. According to Koenigsegg, the conditions were not exactly optimal, the average temperature was around 18 degrees and their car was not even ready to break records.

Instead of the E85 fuel needed to get full power, the car used fairly ordinary 98-octane gasoline. Its 5.1-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine did not produce a full 1,622 horsepower, but roughly “only” 1,297 horsepower. Even so, the car reached a speed of 288 km/h on some straights. In addition, the driver added that he only drove at roughly 90% of the car’s potential.

For the sake of completeness, the automaker added that the Gotland Ring, with a length of 7.3 kilometers, is one of the longest European circuits. And although it is significantly shorter than the iconic Nürburgring, thanks to its unevenness and demanding turns, it is often compared to it for its difficulty.
