KNMI: code yellow for heat • Possible heat record in UK, 41 degrees in south

The heat record can be broken in the United Kingdom today. In the south of England the temperature can reach 41 degrees. The highest temperature recorded so far is 38.7 degrees. That was in Cambridge in 2019.

Of BBC reports that London could become one of the hottest places in the world today. For example, it could be warmer than Dakhla in Western Sahara (24 degrees), Nassau in the Bahamas (32), Kingston in Jamaica (33), Málaga in Spain (28) and Athens in Greece (35).

The weather service has issued a code red for the heat in and around the cities of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Cambridge and York in England. That hasn’t happened before. Code orange applies in other parts of England, Wales and Scotland.

Measures are being taken in England in particular: the underground trains in London are running slower and rail manager Network Rail is calling on travelers to only take the train if their journey is necessary.

It will still be warm in the United Kingdom tomorrow, temperatures will drop again on Wednesday.
