KLM again pays off hundreds of millions on state aid

KLM has again repaid hundreds of millions on government support. 354 million euros has been repaid, last month 311 million euros was repaid.

“We want to repay the remaining amount as soon as possible,” said KLM CEO Pieter Elbers. “Of course, we carefully consider when we can do without these loans at all.”

To get through the corona crisis, KLM was promised a total of 3.4 billion euros in support from the Dutch State. This partly concerned direct loans from the government and loans from banks for which the State acted as guarantor. KLM ultimately used 942 million euros of the aid.

The loans to banks have now been fully repaid. An amount of 277 million euros is still outstanding with the State.

Last week, parent company Air France-KLM announced that 2.25 billion will be raised with the issuance of new shares. The Dutch State also buys part of it. That will probably cost 220 million euros.
