According to B.Z.-Infos, Santiago Ascacibar (22) will sign a contract until 2024 in the coming days.Hertha will pay a transfer fee of 10 million euros.

Ascacibar has been with VfB Stuttgart since 2017. Trainer Jürgen Klinsmann (55) is a big fan and has had the midfield clearer on his list for a long time. Now, together with manager Michael Preetz (52), he tried to make a commitment. The negotiations are nearing completion. Ascacibar is expected soon in Berlin and should definitely go to the training camp in Florida (January 2nd to 10th).
In Stuttgart, the national team (two internationals) is mostly used in a more offensive central midfield position. Klinsmann sees him there as a gift and wants to have it cleared at Hertha right before the defense as a classic six, like most recently Per Skjelbred (32).
What does this deal mean for a possible change from Arsenal star Granit Xhaka (27)?
According to B.Z. information, the Swiss is still on the shopping list. Xhaka himself also hopes to move to Berlin and already agrees with Hertha. Hertha would have to pay at least 25 million euros. However, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta (37) does not want to let him go.
Should the transfer burst, Ascacibar would be a much needed defensive midfielder in the squad. Should Xhaka come to Berlin, he could also play a more offensive part in midfield.
