Klaus G. Förg

Klaus G. Förg turns 70 today. The bookseller and publisher of Rosenheim publishing house congratulates Carel Halff for a milestone birthday:

“Dear Klaus, today on June 6th you are celebrating your 70th birthday and I wish you all the best and, above all, continued creative restlessness and ideas that make you and your life what it is.

When we last met you said: “When I rush through my life like this, I have to shake my head. But that’s how it was.” Your own creativity and new, unconventional ways are your trademark. In the beginning, pop music and sports were much nicer for you than your father’s publishing house in Rosenheim. That’s why you studied sports and geography and financed your studies with the proceeds from your band.

Then into the publishing house, then out again because the father didn’t want a crown prince. Foundation of his own bookshop. Then you managed to fly in Siegfried & Roy and a white tiger from Las Vegas. By the way, the tiger sat in the bookstore without a cage. The Bahnhofstrasse was closed to traffic, bus traffic was diverted, 10,000 people crowded into the store, which was suddenly well known.

Your father then gave you the Rosenheim publishing house. You worked on your own travel photo books “by the way”, after all you had been a photographer for many years. 50 books on destinations around the world have been created to date.

The now five bookstores have been sold. You used the free time for long talks with former soldiers of the Second World War, which are gradually being processed in books on the history of time. Four have already been made.

Wait, there was something else: in the many years you worked, you produced 2,000 radio reports about books on regional radio, mostly interviews with authors. Incidentally, one of the first was Willy Brandt, and the last for the time being Sebastian Fitzek.

With your wonderful wife Siriporn, who comes from Thailand and works in the publishing house, you have decided: “We will continue as long as our feet will carry us. After all, publishing work is much nicer than mowing the lawn.”
