Dancers and choreographer Laura Gorodko will share their impressions of Dario Argentina’s screening on January 22, Paula Jansone, a representative of Kino Bize, informs Delfi.

Dario Argentino is also known as a film producer and critic. The director began his creative career with the film “Bird with a Crystal Feather” (1970), but before that he worked as a screenwriter. Perhaps his best-known work as a screenwriter was the 1968 Spaghetti Western “Once Upon a Time in the West” (dir. Sergio Leone). In the world of cinema, Argentino’s influence in the Italian thriller sub-genre or “giallo” is often emphasized, which is often characterized by the master’s favorite and handwriting techniques – the range of red colors, the image of a trapped woman and elements of mysticism.

After a ten-year hiatus, the name of the legendary director is once again heard in the cinema: his latest feature film is expected in 2022, while Gaspar Noe’s “Vortex” starring Argento premiered at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival.

According to Jansone, the fourth cycle of “Classic Film Evening” focuses on different cinema currents, developments and phenomena in different time periods, revealing the films and their creators that are brilliant in the history of cinema, as well as their connection with general world events.

The film “Suspiria” depicts the mystique in the hallways of a prestigious German ballet school. It is attended by the young American dancer Suzanne, who is destined to witness what the human body can create during a ritualized performance. Although art has been associated with the divine realm in the early days of mankind, it can also become a cover for transcendental evil.

The film in the original language with subtitles in Latvian will be shown in three screenings at the cinema “Kino Bize” from January 21 to 23.
