King’s Christmas speech attracts more than one and a half million viewers

King Willem-Alexander’s Christmas speech has attracted more than one and a half million viewers, according to figures from Stichting KijkOnderzoek.

The king called for connection in polarized times and spoke for the first time in his Christmas speech about climate change.

The speech was broadcast on the channels of the public broadcaster, RTL 4, RTL Z and SBS6. Most people watched via NPO 1 at 12.59 pm (740,000). Another 508,000 people watched the rerun on the same channel later in the afternoon.

The speech was broadcast on NPO 2 with sign language interpreter. 199,000 people watched that. The speech was watched a total of 88,000 times on RTL channels, 67,000 people watched on SBS 6.
