King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer, Buckingham Palace has announced. He is canceling all his public engagements, with the most important ones being taken up by other members of the British royal family.
His disease was discovered during treatment for an enlarged prostate, but the palace said it was not prostate cancer.
The palace does not reveal exactly what type of illness it is.
“The King is positive about the treatment ahead and is looking forward to returning to his public duties as soon as possible,” Buckingham Palace said.
The palace did not give any additional information about the king’s state of health, nor what is the prognosis for his illness.
From there they also add that although Charles III will temporarily suspend his public duties, he will continue to exercise his constitutional powers.
The BBC also reports that Prince Harry has spoken to his father about his diagnosis and will travel to Britain in the coming days to see him.
Charles III is 75 years old and inherited the throne from his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who was the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
More than a week ago, Charles underwent a prostate procedure, with the news breaking even then. The king’s goal was to encourage more men to get prostate exams.
