Killed wolf found on A2 in Limburg

A dead wolf was found on the A2 in Limburg last night. The animal that had been hit by a car was found near Nederweert, the province of Limburg reports. It is the third wolf to have been hit within a radius of 35 kilometers in three months.

The gender of the wolf is still unknown. The animal is further examined in the Dutch Wildlife Health Center of Utrecht University and at Wageningen Environmental Research to determine the age, stomach contents and condition of the animal. DNA testing must show which wolf it is. How such research should be conducted is laid down in the interprovincial wolf plan.

In recent months, wolves and wolf tracks have been observed much more often than before. The provincial cooperation body BIJ12, which keeps track of wolf reports, registered reports of tracks and sightings of wolves between November and February 1567. There were also three collisions during that period.

Last March a she-wolf was born between Arnhem and Ede killed in a car† The animal turned out to be pregnant with octuplets.
