Preacher Khalid Basalamah open voice related to the video of his talk that was spread on social media about puppet. So far, his statement about wayang haram has drawn criticism from several parties.
Khalid apologized to the offended party. He conveyed it through a video uploaded on the Basalamah Official Youtube channel
“I, Khalid Basalamah, apologize profusely from our conscience to all parties, including those who feel disturbed or offended by our response,” Khalid said.
Khalid explained that he never explicitly mentioned wayang haram in his lecture. He admitted that he only conveyed suggestions to make Islam a tradition, not the other way around.
“When asked about wayang, I said how good it would be and we suggested that we make Islam a tradition, don’t make tradition an Islam. And there is no prohibition in my words.” he said.
Khalid explained that according to him, there is no problem with traditions that are in line with Islam. However, if it is against Islam, then it should be abandoned.
“The meaning of these words is also if there is a tradition that is in line with Islam, there is no problem. And if it clashes with Islam, it is better to leave it, this is a suggestion,” he said.
He also explained about the second video clip regarding questions related to the repentance of a puppeteer.
Khalid said that it is the same as asking how to repent a merchant, a teacher, which is a profession.
“Generally, Muslims if they repent and every Muslim will definitely feel happy, happy, if they are invited to repent. And the answer is nasuha repentance, return to God with true repentance,” he said.
Then related to the video clip about the puppet that must be destroyed. He explained that the statement was only a suggestion for individuals.
Khalid admitted that he had no thoughts of erasing wayang from Indonesian history or telling the puppeteers to repent.
“For example, he is a puppeteer. If he repents and doesn’t want to do that anymore, what will he do with these puppets. I say for him to be individually destroyed, that’s all.” he said.
“I have absolutely no thought or intention to erase this from the history of Indonesian ancestors or for example to order all the puppeteers to repent to Allah. Or for example all wayang must be destroyed. If you want to do that, that’s your right. in our taklim,” he added.
He stated that the clarification he conveyed was not to justify his attitude, but only to explain the intent of the content of his lecture.
“This video, our friends, is made for clarification as well as apologies for the snippet of a question asked by one of the worshipers several years ago at the Blok M Mosque in Jakarta, and at the same time our answer about the puppet problem,” said Khalid.
