Kevin van Veen can leave FC Groningen during the winter transfer window. His agent has informed Dagblad van het Noorden that Rangers FC is one of the Scottish clubs that is interested in the 32-year-old striker.

Van Veen was acquired from Scottish side Motherwell FC with much fanfare last summer. In conversation with RTV Noord, he said at the time that he would score thirty goals in the Kitchen Champion Division. “If I can score against Celtic and Rangers FC, then I should also be able to score a few times against FC Den Bosch.”

However, Groningen performed far below par in the first months. Van Veen shared in the malaise. The striker lost his starting place in October and has since played only 111 minutes, spread over 7 appearances.

In total, Van Veen scored five goals in fourteen Kitchen Champion Division matches. Despite his poor first six months at Groningen, the Brabander is still expected to be in the market. General manager Wouter Gudde has already announced that a winter departure from the Trot van het Noorden is a possibility.

Interesse Rangers
Van Veen’s agent now reveals that several clubs from the Scottish Premier League are interested. Reigning national champion Rangers, among others, are reportedly interested in the attacker.

The Gers are competing with Celtic for the championship and are also active in Europe. Rangers secured the eighth finals of the Europa League by finishing at the top of a group with Sparta Prague, Real Betis and Aris Limassol.

The striker is currently already in Scotland, because his wife still lives there. The couple has just given birth to their first child, which makes it even more difficult for Van Veen to continue playing football in the Netherlands.
