Keith Bakker, who is suspected of being abused, is detained longer NOW

Keith Bakker, who was detained at the beginning of October on suspicion of sexual abuse, remains detained for longer. The court in Amsterdam decided that during a pro forma session on Wednesday.

Baker’s lawyer Patrick van der Meij asked the court to end the pre-trial detention, but the court did not agree.

The 59-year-old Bakker was not present himself. According to his lawyer, he expected that “not so much would happen”.

Bakker is accused of sexual abuse by his ex-girlfriend, who he thought was eighteen when they had a relationship at the end of 2017. She says she had sex with him when she didn’t want to. The two had known each other for some time before they had a relationship.

According to Bakker, the woman was eighteen when they first had sex, but according to the Public Prosecution Service she was sixteen or seventeen.

Van der Meij emphasized that the two really had a love affair, with mutual consent. According to the lawyer, the woman’s statements about that relationship are contradictory. The Public Prosecutor argued that Bakker’s statements are not consistent.

‘Violation of professional prohibition’

According to the OM, Bakker also acted as a counselor for the woman, who was struggling with an eating disorder. That is also charged to him by the OM.

After all, Bakker had a professional ban, which was imposed on him in 2012 after he was sentenced to five years in prison for sexual abuse of some former clients.

Bakker ran a rehab clinic for years and was also featured in various programs, including From peter to angel and Family Matters, in which he helped young people with problems.

The next session will take place on March 20. It is not yet clear whether the case will be dealt with in terms of content.
