The manufacturer KEF already presented its metamaterial technology in autumn 2020. This is an absorption technology that reduces unwanted frequencies radiated from the back almost completely (according to KEF by up to 99 percent). KEF is now announcing that the latest incarnations of the KEF Blade and KEF The Reference speaker ranges will also feature this technology.
KEF Blade und The Reference: Details
The futuristic-looking small series (the Blade One Meta can be seen in the picture above) consists of the large floor-standing model KEF Blade One Meta and the slightly smaller “brother” KEF Blade Two Meta, also a floor-standing speaker. They are intended for uncompromising hi-fi reproduction. The gently curved radius of the front tapers both top-to-bottom and front-to-back – this is intended to minimize standing waves.

KEF’s The Reference series, on the other hand, is not only aimed at stereo fans, but also at home cinema owners. It consists of two three-way floor-standing speakers, a three-way compact speaker and two three-way center speakers, which can also be used as left-middle-right speakers.
All loudspeakers of both series are in the latest version with Metamaterial-Absorptionstechnologie fitted. If you want to know more about how it works, you can read here. But that’s not all: In both series, the Frequenzweichen and the case design improved.
Eight finishes are available for the Blade loudspeakers, combining five different cabinet colors and six driver cone colors. Individual versions should also be available from June 2022. The Reference loudspeakers, on the other hand, are available in three housing colors and five driver membrane colors.
