The matches between Kędzierzyn and Nysa volleyball players are considered the derby of the Opole region. Winning such a match is therefore even more valuable. Both teams fought fiercely for it – the match, which started on Tuesday evening, ended after midnight on Wednesday.
The match started brilliantly for the guests, who beat the Polish runners-up by three points. Jakub Abramowicz, the center from Nysa, quickly launched three effective attacks. And their advantage continued. ZAKSA was unable to fully eliminate it for a long time. And when it was getting closer, Zouheir El Graoui showed off his service ace. And when Łukasz Kaczmarek was blocked, the hosts were already losing 11:15.
Later, Bartosz Bednorz made a mistake in attack, on the other side Michał Gierżot and Remigiusz Kapica were almost unstoppable in attack. The volleyball players from Nysa were leading 21:16 and it seemed that they could no longer let this game go. However, thanks to Andreas Takvam’s services, the hosts equalized the score. But the guests persevered at the end and won 25:23.
Grupa Azoty ZAKSA did not recover in the second set. Great form of the volleyball players from Nysa
PSG Stal showed a good performance in the first round, but in the end they were unable to take even a set from Jastrzębski Węgiel. At the beginning of the season, he has to cope without the help of the most famous summer transfer, attacker Maciej Muzaj. In ZAKS, Dmytro Paszycki and Wojciech Żaliński are still struggling with health problems.
The remaining Kędzierzyn players had problems on the pitch on Tuesday. Already in the first minutes of the second set, the rivals first blocked Aleksander Śliwka’s attack, and after a while the hosts’ captain attacked in the drive-in. This time, however, ZAKSA achieved a draw quite quickly, at 7:7. However, her game could not gain momentum because Tuomas Sammelvuo’s volleyball players had problems with their serve.
When Nicolas Zerba stopped Śliwka again with a block, in the second half of the set ZAKSA was already losing 14:17. Kaczmarek still got the team going, but the guests’ finish was excellent. Kapica was brilliant with his serve, while Kamil Szymura defended. The Champions League winners had no answer to this and lost 21:25.
Remigiusz Kapica’s plays were not enough. Difficult moments for Marcin Janusz
At the beginning of the third game, ZAKSA finally took a higher, four-point lead, but Gierżot collided with her block. Sammelvuo decided to send Twan Wiltenburg to replace Takvam. The Kędzierzyn team’s game began to clearly overlap. They were already leading by six points, but then Kapica made a series of great plays. He fired at the Polish national team’s receivers and Erik Shoji. ZAKSA won only 14:13. However, the successful team was able to defend itself. And this despite the absence of Marcin Janusz. The international playmaker had to leave the field and physiotherapists took care of his back. The hosts won 25:21.
They continued their good play from the beginning of the fourth game. Importantly, with Janusz in the lineup again. On the other side, Wojciech Włodarczyk, the receiver, appeared. ZAKSA was three or four points ahead of its rivals. Bednorz scored points diligently, and David Smith added blocks. Even though Kapica was still crazy in the serving area – he already scored the sixth point with this element – the guests did not make up for the losses. The Polish runners-up won 25:22, but Stal’s good finish could have given them hope for a successful tie-break.
A killer tie-break in PlusLiga. ZAKSA is victorious
The fifth game is initially a point-for-point fight. The guests played without the tired Gierżot. Bednorz continued to score point after point, who also helped stop Kapica’s attack with a block and showed off a service ace. ZAKSA was leading 7:4, but the next three actions were won by the guests. The Kędzierzyn team once again escaped with two points, and the rivals equalized once again.
The ending was full of spectacular action. The hosts had four match points, but after one of the actions was verified, the volleyball players from Nysa took the initiative. In addition, Janusz received a yellow card for discussions. However, his team regained the initiative and after almost three hours of play won 24:22, when Zerba attacked the team.
