Kaufland scanners customers shopping smartphone

The K-Scan service was implemented by the network in September last year. Mobile scanners went to six supermarkets in Silesia, located in Tarnowskie Góry, Katowice, Siemianowice Śląskie and Chorzów. Poland was the fifth country where Kaufland customers started using the K-Scan service.

What is it about? First, at the entrance to the sales hall, you should reach for a scanner, and then, as always – do shopping, scanning the barcodes of selected products on an ongoing basis with the reader. After completing their purchase, the customer using the K-Scan service should go to the self-service checkout to complete the transaction. In order to indicate your willingness to pay, you need to scan the QR code stuck on each of the cash registers, and then the code that will be displayed on the scanner. The last step is payment.

The network is satisfied with the K-Scan pilot and plans to expand the service. – Currently, K-Scan scanners can be used in eight Kaufland stores. They will soon be available in over thirty stores – says Marcin Łojewski, member of the management board of Kaufland Polska, to the Wirtualnemedia.pl portal. They will appear mainly in stores in large cities.

Kaufland will test scanning purchases with smartphones

Łojewski announces that the network will also start testing the possibility of scanning purchases via a smartphone. If the results of the pilot are positive, this option may also be introduced in Kaufland stores on a permanent basis.

Currently, the Carrefour network, which launched the Scan & Go service a few years ago, allows you to scan purchases via the mobile phone application.

Łojewski points out that there are some downsides to using your smartphone to scan your purchases such as the fact that the phone goes to sleep or may take inaccurate photos, while the scanner is specifically designed for this kind of activity.

– In other countries where there is K-Scan and the ability to scan with a smartphone, the vast majority of customers use scanners Lojewski says.

Kaufland March 2. will launch a new K-Card loyalty program which can be used in the application as well as with a plastic card. It will give access to special offers, discount coupons or the ability to collect points for purchases. The new program will replace the Payback program in the stores of the chain, which is looking for a new partner among grocery store chains.

In Poland, Kaufland has 240 stores and employs approx. 15,000 people. employees. The company belongs to the Schwarz Group, which also owns Lidl.
