Where Katja Schuurman (47) with her ex-husband Thijs Römer (43) now goes through life as friends, it is currently something different with her ex-husband Freek van Noortwijk. Opposite ‘AD’ she opens a book about the love break.

Katja and Freek decided in November to end their ceremonial wedding. “Our lives were so entwined. That detachment, that was something for me. We only broke up in November. It just has to take time.”
The presenter felt quite ‘stupid’. “Freek made it a bit more complex by getting back on the love path fairly quickly. I found that painful and complicated. It also took the attention and energy away to do it together in the best possible way for Coco.”

Although it may still be all fresh and difficult for Katja, she hopes the sharp edges will wear off with time. She actually thought that she would immediately become friends with Freek after the break, just like she is now with her ex Thijs. “In my memory – but I have a bad memory – I divorced Thijs and we were immediately friends.” Yet the fork was slightly different in the stem. “We hardly spoke to each other in the first months and if that happened, we had an argument. It makes sense that time must pass. But then, I have an idea of what it must be like: that it is all right, we have a little one, we gonna make some damn thing out of it.”

The presenter also tells why things went wrong between her and the chef. She thought that she and Freek were the same, but later it turned out that she was blinded by love. The two are very different in life. “I thought: he is younger, maybe he will change. Thinking that you can change someone is a misunderstanding. In recent years there has been a lot of struggle, hassle, tension. It is also nice not to have that anymore.”

Katja herself does not have to think about a new love for a while. “I will probably have a flirt in the summer, or that someone will stay overnight, but he can leave soon,” she says.

Earlier this week, Katja was in the news because of a campaign for a shoe brand. The presenter is a model, but in the background of a photo are two children who apparently do not have it wide.
