Kat Boefje found mummified after seven years

A mummified cat was found during a renovation in a monumental building in Utrecht. When the animal ambulance picked up the animal, the chip still worked fine. It quickly became clear that the cat was called Boefje and had been missing since 2014.

It is not yet entirely clear why the cat was mummified, reports RTV Utrecht. The location may possibly play a role: ambulance workers found the cat just behind a chimney. The animal went missing in the winter, at a time when the stove was used a lot. A warm, stuffy spot near the chimney can lead to conditions in which a body becomes mummified.

Animal Ambulance Utrecht says that the owners of Boefje have been informed of the find. “Moral of the story: chip your animal and register it properly. Even in such cases, it can provide the answer,” said the animal ambulance staff on Facebook.
