final

Kashima Antlers Junior Youth 3-2 (1-1 first half, 1-1 second half, 1-0 first half, 0-0 second half) Omiya Ardija U15

Kashima took the lead in the opening seven minutes by inducing an own goal from a corner kick, but Omiya Ardija U15 (Kanto 1/Saitama), who have found the back of the net with set pieces many times this tournament, did not give up. In the 17th minute, Yoshito Kumada capitalized on two successive CK opportunities to bring the match back to square one.

Kashima, who had been caught up, tried to regain momentum by pressing from the front once again, and Omiya tried to avoid the heavy pressure and attack from behind, showing an attitude of moving forward. Omiya had several chances with their runs from midfield, but it was Kashima who scored the next goal. In the 42nd minute, Daigo Hirashima, who moved from midfield to the right and cut back inside the penalty area, took a shot. Kashima took the lead again with a goal to the far side.

Kashima had another chance in the 49th minute when a cross was returned, but Omiya defender Rin Nakazawa cleared it. When the defense struggled, it was the substitute players who responded. In the 56th minute, five minutes after his appearance, Takumi Ishikawa appeared to have been stopped just in front of the penalty area, but instead of giving up, he accelerated vertically. He scored the tying goal past three players.

In overtime, both teams continued to attack each other, and it was Kashima who showed their competitive strength. Seven minutes into overtime, Hirashima volleyed in a loose ball from a left CK, giving the team their third lead. Omiya also tried hard, including Yuki Kobayashi’s breakthrough, but the score remained unchanged. Kashima won a close battle.

Coach/player comments

Manager Yoshitaka Shinohara (Kashima Antlers Junior Youth)
I entered the match thinking that it would be a tough game. There were good and bad points, but I was happy that the players made their own choices and showed their full potential. Usually matches are decided in 80 minutes, but today they said they had up to 100 minutes, so I think they controlled their emotions and played with confidence. I believe that individuals should grow up in their developmental years. I think I’ve grown a lot as an individual over the past year, which led to this title.

Daigo Hirashima (Kashima Antlers Junior Youth)
I thought it would be a tough match. In the first half, we couldn’t play very aggressive football, but I think it was good that we were able to run well in the second half. In the scene where I scored the winning goal, I saw that the ball was about to fall, so I relaxed and was able to make the ball. I knew we could win even if it went into overtime or a penalty shootout, so I’m glad that that feeling came out well. When I was a first-year student, I was considered weak, but I can only feel grateful to the staff for raising me to this level. I’m really glad that we ended up winning, and in the future I want to become a top team player and win a title on the professional stage.

Director Yusuke Tanno (Omiya Ardija U15)
It was a really fun final, and we were able to show what we had built up, especially in the first half. I think our opponent was a little better at the final quality of pushing the ball into the goal. I think there is really value in aiming to be number one in Japan. On the other hand, rather than making this a goal, the most important thing is how the players grow by gaining experience like this. I think the reason why we were able to show a different side than usual in this tournament was because the players made a conscious effort. I’m looking forward to the future growth.

Yasuto Kanda (Omiya Ardija U15)
We had set the goal of becoming the best in Japan, and we all decided to give everything we had, so even when we went ahead, as captain, I called out to everyone and was able to catch up in the first half. There were some moments where we couldn’t score, so it was a difficult match. I think we were able to get this far because not only the starters but also the subs and players off the bench fought together and were all heading in the same direction. I have a desire to change from the academy to a club. I think we were able to show Omiya’s value and we were able to deliver what we have achieved.
