On Saturday, the Latvian BMX Championship was held on the BMX track of “Avotu” in Valmiera region with a record of new participants. Rinalds Jānis Kārkliņš and Vineta Pētersone became the champions of the state elite group, informs the Latvian Cycling Federation (LRF). The Latvian BMX cycling championship was expected with great interest. This year, the prestigious competition was hosted by Valmiera region BMX club “Tālava”. The organizers had taken care of all the prerequisites for a great competition.

A total of 411 participants participated in 24 age and skill groups, thus reaching a new record of Latvian championship participants. The competition was divided into two blocks. In the morning, the riders of the youngest groups up to 10 years of age, as well as cruisers, competed, but in the afternoon, the medals of the national champion were distributed by young people from 11 years of age, juniors, elite and amateur athletes. In addition to the intrigue of the competition gave the club rating.

In the group of elite men, the winner was determined in the sum of four races. Apart from Olympian Helvis Babrim, the main favorite was Kristens Kriegers from Jelgava (“Mītavas foals / AKSSC Valmiera”). He also started the day with a sure victory. In the second trip, the scenario is different.

In the first turn, Krieger collided with Edward Glazer, both of whom experienced falls. The winner was Rinalds Jānis Kārkliņš (“MŠA / Valmiera boys”). Krieger probably won again in the third race. Before the last trip, both students of coach Ivo Lakučs had five points each.

The fight for victory for Krieger ended in the unfortunate first turn, where he collided with Nick Rožukalns. Both fell, while Rinalds Jānis Kārkliņš was the first to reach the finish line in proud loneliness, thus unexpectedly becoming the Latvian champion. Krieger took the second place, but the third was Niks Rožukalns.

The title of national champion for the lady elite is also this year for “Silva ziķeri / AKSCC Valmiera” representative Vineta Pētersone. Vineta won all day trips. Second place for “Talava” club rider Megija Agate Deicmane. Juniors won Līva Lizete Glāzere, while the second and third place was won by her club members from “Tālava / VBSS” Zane Andersone and Adrija Dārta Siliņa.

In the junior boys competition, the Latvian champion shirt was convincingly won by the representative of “BMX Mārupe” Mārtiņš Zadraks. Two representatives of “Tālava / VBSS” also entered the top three. The second is Kārlis Pedraudzis, and the third is Mārtiņš Emīls Treimanis.

Hugo Ilvis Eihentāls from Jelgava, who has the title of Latvian champion, won all day trips in the powerful B16 group. Second place for Dāvis Jānis Elbrets (“Tālava / VBSS”), and third place for Roberts Zaķītis (“BMX Rīga”). Viesturs Morozs, representing BMX Tukums, won the next national champion title in the M17 + amateur group. He left Roberts Treimanis and Rihards Jānis Liepiņš (both “Tālava / VBSS”) behind him.
