In Kanye West’s (43) home state of Illinois, of all places, nobody will be able to elect him as president. The rapper announced his presidential candidacy in July. It followed a messy ones back and forthwhether he had not withdrawn his candidacy after all. In the meantime he is part of the presidential election again and has already campaigned diligently, but his chances seem more hopeless than ever.
The musician doesn’t even manage to get on all the ballot papers in the 50 states. According to Forbes Magazine, West has already missed a few deadlines. In Kansas, Maryland, North Carolina, New York, Florida, Michigan, Texas, New Mexico, West Virginia, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Nebraska, Maine and Nevada, he is therefore not listed as a candidate. Now Illinois is added. But the reason is much more explosive. So it is about possible election fraud.

More than half of his votes were invalid
To get on the ballot in Illinois, Kanye West needs 2,500 signatures. Originally, with 3,128 votes submitted, he had more than enough. However, several people objected to his request to be put on the ballot. Therefore, an election committee checked all votes. Election officials found that 1900 of these are invalid. Therefore he is not eligible for election. West reportedly left around 30,000 francs to be put on the ballot paper.

It is still unclear what is wrong with the signatures. It could be a fake name, fake address, unregistered Illinois voter, or just plain illegible signatures. There is a similar problem in New Jersey. A lawyer has classified several hundred signatures as questionable, as the local newspaper “NJ” writes.

“This circumstance could lead to an investigation and indictment of election fraud”
A White House correspondent, April Ryan, suspects the invalid signatures were purely intentional. This could have serious consequences for West, as she writes on Twitter: “This circumstance could lead to an investigation and indictment of election fraud. I expect more states, especially those where Kanye has received Republican aid, to follow suit soon and scrutinize his applications. ”

The journalist seems to be right. Meanwhile, Wisconsin is also examining the rapper’s presidential candidacy after members of the Democratic Party found signatures from “Mickey Mouse” and Bernie Sanders, 78, among the ballots. (bsn)
