Kansas City Chiefs extend Super Bowl title after thrilling victory over 49ers

After regular playing time the score was tied 19-19. The Chiefs ultimately prevailed with a touchdown just seconds before the end of overtime. It was only the second time in Super Bowl history that the game went into overtime.

It is their third title in five years and the second time in a row that the Chiefs have taken home the cup. It is the first time in twenty years that a team has won the Super Bowl two years in a row. The Chiefs previously won the title in 1970, 2020 and 2023. In 2020, they defeated the 49ers 31-20. The San Francisco 49ers are stuck at five Super Bowl victories.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes described the title extension as “the beginning of a dynasty” after the game. “We’re not done yet. I have a young team. We are going to continue this.”

A notable presence in the crowd was pop star Taylor Swift, who came to cheer on her friend Travis Kelce of the Chiefs. Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Gordon Ramsey and Leonardo DiCaprio, among others, also attended the annual high mass of American football at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Sunday’s Super Bowl was the 58th edition of the most watched sporting event in the United States.
