Kane Williamson steps down as New Zealand Test captain New Zealand Cricket has announced veteran pacer Southee will be the replacement Test captain. Meanwhile, Williamson will continue to captain the ODI and T20 teams.
The 32-year-old Williamson replied that captaining Test cricket was an incredibly special honour. In 2016, the player took over the captaincy of the test team. Being a captain is a huge workload on and off the pitch. “At this point in my career, it’s time to make this decision,” he said.
Under Williamson’s captaincy, New Zealand won 22 of the 40 Test matches they played. Tim Southee will lead the team in the Test series in Pakistan from 26 December.
