Kalle Rovanpera takes over Swedish WRC: F1LV Blog

The second day of the Swedish WRC ended with a convincing performance by Kalle Rovanpera from Toyota. Elvin Evans is the second member of the team, but the podium is still closed by Belgian Trier Nouville from Hyundai.

The first days By the end of the second day, Neivil had broken the barely 4.3 – second lead, but already in the first stage of the second day he gave the lead to Som Kallem Rovanper. All four Toyota units were the fastest in the lead with Evans, crushing the entire Top 4 of the rally in just 3.2 seconds. Rovanpera won the next stage, but in the third stage of the day, the first victory in M-Sport finally came to yesterday’s unsuccessful Kreig Brin. In each stage, Neivill continued to slide down the place, while Evans and Lapi also filled the rest of the podium for the Toyota team.

Craig Brin won his first stage victory in the M-Sport

After the service park, Evans finally started to beat Rovanpera’s lead by winning in the special stage, but Rovanpera played again in the next two special stages, driving faster than Evans and Noivil, and Lapi was not able to break the deficit against any of the three competitors. Curiously, the day ended for Evans, who tried to break his 5.7-second deficit to the leader, but slipped straight in the last turn and literally turned off the lights throughout the area, hitting the finish line and right inside the pillar of light. The Welsh Toyota did not suffer and ironically it was the fastest time at the time, but Rovanpera was faster again and ended the day with an advantage of 8.3 seconds. Finn won his first podium in the Swedish WRC Rally two years ago and is now approaching his third career victory.

After a very solid first day, Oliver Solberg fought with confidence, and Takamoto Katsuta was gradually catching up. The difference was big enough and there would be no change of position even with the 20 seconds won, but the Swedish Hyundai vehicle had technical problems. As a result, Solberg was fined and seventh behind M-Sport rider Gas Greensmith. Brin was left without engine power. The Irish athlete was able to get aside using electric propulsion, but was forced to withdraw for the second day in a row. Adriens Furmo, the third M-Sport driver, was forced to stop in the last stage of the day, but the Frenchman was able to finish.

In the WRC2 class, a fierce Norwegian battle continued between Andreas Mikelsen and Ole Christian Weiby. Weiby was able to take the lead for one stage, but the current WRC2 champion Mikelsen proved to be superior at the end of the day.
