Dennis Hohloch, Parliamentary Managing Director and currently acting chairman of the parliamentary group, talked to a colleague who was the former country chief Andreas Kalbitz came into the room. He is said to have greeted Hohloch with a blow in the side. The punch was apparently so violent that the 31-year-old Hohloch soon complained of severe stomach pain.

The next day, doctors found internal injuries. A ruptured spleen was diagnosed in the hospital. Hohloch has now confirmed the injury. “Since the rumor mill is seething and the pot is now almost boiling over: Yes, I’m currently still in the hospital with a ruptured spleen,” he wrote on Tuesday on Twitter. Kalbitz himself spoke of a “mishap” and a “chain of unfortunate circumstances”.
