Kaag was having dinner with Ploumen and Klaver when Kabul fell | Inland

NRC reported on Wednesday morning the dinner between Kaag, Klaver, Ploumen and their seconds Corinne Ellemeet (GL) and Henk Nijkboer (PvdA). According to Klaver and Ploumen, it was a ‘catch-up session after the holidays’, and they would not have seen the basic document for a coalition agreement there.

The formation meeting paints a painful picture of Kaag, whose ministry plays one of the leading roles in the evacuation of Dutch nationals, embassy staff and Afghan interpreters from Kabul. Her colleague Bijleveld (Defense) struck a similar mud figure the day before, when she tweeted on Saturday evening that she had watched the film ‘De Slag om de Schelde’ that evening.

Those involved complained that the ministries were difficult to reach during the weekend, and they were sent from pillar to post on contact. They find it incomprehensible that the cabinet did not completely wipe the agenda this weekend and came together for crisis deliberations.

The evacuation from Kabul has now started. Wednesday morning it was announced that the first Dutchmen were able to leave Kabul.
