“Juventus Faces Possible European Football Ban After Latest Sanction Over Capital Gains Inflation”

The Serie A team received a 15-point ban in January, but the ban was overturned following an appeal.

The federation has now moved to issue a new sanction after intervention by the Federal Court of Appeals, meaning the club could miss out on European football next season.

The sanctions refer to the club having artificially inflated the value of the players in their accounts using capital gains.

The Court of Appeal confirmed the charges against the club and acquitted the leaders, Pavel Nedved, Paolo Garimberti, Asia Grazioli Venier, Caitlin Marie Hughes, Daniela Marilongo, Francesco Roncalho and Enrico Villano of wrongdoing.

Former Tottenham sporting director Fabio Paratici, who held the same role at Juventus between 2018 and 2021, was given a global two-year ban from football by FIFA in April for his role in the affair, forcing him to resign from his position at Tottenham.

The club said in a statement that it had taken note of the sentence and reserved “the right to read the reasons to assess a possible appeal.”

They added that the decision “causes great bitterness in the club and among its millions of followers”, who were “punished with the application of sanctions that do not seem to take into account the principle of proportionality.”

Deducting points, the club fell to seventh in the Serie A table, one point out of the European qualifying places after a 4-1 loss to Empoli on Monday night.
