Juve, the renewal of De Ligt as a priority. But it is (almost) all in the hands of the Dutchman

A situation to be monitored that Juventus would have happily done without living during this summer that promises to be full of changes. Matthijs de Ligt remains two years of the five contract signed in 2019 when Juventus withdrew him from Ajax for € 75 million plus a bonus of € 10.5. And now, somewhat unexpectedly, management has become more complicated than expected.

Extending De Ligt is a priority for Juve.
On Thursday morning a meeting was staged between Rafaela Pimenta and the Juventus management in Milan to carry on, among other topics of discussion, also the talks around the figure of Matthijs de Ligt. The starting point is a contract expiring in two years which, in the event of non-extension, would force the Juventus club to sell the Dutch powerhouse at a settlement price in the summer of 2023 to avoid losing a free capital. The priority for Madama, as mentioned, corresponds to an extension of the contract. As always, however, marriages are made in two and at this point a step is expected from the player who however, he does not seem predisposed to meet the policy of cutting wages in Juventus’ ideas.

The Premier League knocks on the door.
The market sirens around a player of the caliber of De Ligt are never turned off, even more so when the bond that binds him to the club is about to run out and the player is not so convinced to renew the new conditions of the club he belongs to. So the first polls have already started, with Chelsea intending to find the replacements of Rudiger and Christensen but also with Manchester City of that Guardiola who deeply esteems the Dutch central. They have therefore already begun to knock on the door across the Channel and in all probability they will do so more and more intensely as the days pass. And the decision, more than ever in this case, is in the hands of the player: either it will be renewal or it will be goodbye. With a release clause of around 120 million euros which Juve relies on today in the event of a sale.
