“Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate,” said a statement released by both the 51-year-old and his estranged wife on Wednesday, March 2. August 2023, share via Instagram. And further: “As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for one another and for all that we have built and will continue to build.”

Sophie was a childhood friend and classmate of Trudeau’s younger brother, Michel Trudeau, who died in an avalanche in 1998 at the age of 23. Justin Trudeau and Sophie Grégoire tied the knot in May 2005 and are now parents to two sons, Xavier, 15, and Hadrien, 9, and 14-year-old Ella-Grace.
