July 2020 was the coldest July since 2012

There was less rainfall than average in July. In Uccle this was a total of 47.4 millimeters, while normally 73.5 millimeters of water fall. On average it rained more days than usual: 17 instead of 14.3 days in a normal month of July. The average regional precipitation levels everywhere in our country were well below the normals: they varied from about 20 percent of the normal amounts in Belgian Lorraine to about 70 percent on the coast and in the Land of Herve.

The sunshine duration was normal with almost 200 hours of sunshine, and the average wind speed – 3.1 meters per second – is also not remarkable. However, a record low for the number of thunderstorms was recorded: there were only 3 in July, while there are normally more than 13. The previous record dates back to 1998, when it had just been thundered for 5 days in July.
