Judge does not come – the trial is postponed into the summer

Lichtenfels – It was a strange incident that happened on Tuesday in the district court. According to the motto: process opened – process postponed. In a sense, the court was understaffed and that had consequences.

“It should actually go around quickly, right?” Was the sentence that the 21-year-old defendant whispered shortly after his lawyer Jan Hofer arrived in Room 14. That this would be the case was not to be expected at first.

After all, there were two charges that had to be negotiated. According to the indictment, the young man insulted a woman on April 23 of last year and then jumped at a man so that he fell over a wall. The result: several bruises and the procedure for insult and assault.

So they were gathered on site: Public Prosecutor Anna Saam, a representative of the youth court assistance as well as judge Matthias Huber and a lay judge. Lawyer and accused anyway. But where was the missing lay judge? One waited. When it began to appear that the delay was increasing, the court tried to telephone the missing lay judge. Without success. A little later, judge Matthias Huber announced that the trial could not take place.

As was heard, this is likely to be a rather one-off incident. “New date towards summer,” said Judge Huber in any case. Then the trial was suspended. The defendant and his lawyer took it with humor. Although the process is not over, it probably went around faster than the 21-year-old had initially hoped.
