Juan Francisco Ealy Lanz Duret Appointed President of Group of Newspapers America for 2023-2025 Term

Juan Francisco Ealy Lanz Duretvice president and general director of El Universal de México, was appointed president of the Group of Newspapers Americafor the period 2023-2025, and in his inauguration message, he assured that together, the main newspapers in Latin America will successfully overcome the challenges presented by the new times in the business of communication and journalism.

Grupo de Diarios América (GDA) is a consortium that brings together the twelve most influential independent newspapers in Latin America: La Nación, from Argentina; O Globo, from Brazil; The Mercury of Chile; El Tiempo, from Colombia; La Nación, from Costa Rica; El Comercio, from Peru; El Nuevo Día, from Puerto Rico; El País, from Uruguay; El Nacional, from Venezuela; La Prensa Gráfica, from El Salvador, and El Gran Diario from Mexico. In addition, as of this year, Listín Diario, from the Dominican Republic, joined.

“I assume this presidency with an updated vision, vision and purpose of the GDA and with a clear strategic framework, in whose aspects I will work to make all the achievements made over the years materialize and translate into the generation of income for our publishing houses,” he said.

Lanz Duret said that during his tenure he will strongly support innovation processes, technological changes and new business windows.

He added that he will also seek greater joint work in editorial matters. “Another of my priorities will be to promote daily efforts to generate greater editorial collaboration between the companies that make up the GDA, with the development of high-quality content that demonstrates the professionalism and important reach of our companies in the audiences of the region, eager for fully verified information and news.”

“Honor to whom honor is due and I think it is very fair to highlight the very successful and productive presidency of Guillermo Scheck (CEO of El País, from Uruguay), during which the Policy for Admission and Participation of Members and Guests to the GDA, which today allows us to add our Dominican colleagues to strengthen our well-established publishing and business partnership.”

Finally, Ealy Lanz Duret proposed that the next meeting of the GDA be held in the fall in Mexican territory, in Mérida, Yucatán.

“As a Mexican, I want to tell you that I am proud of my country, that like the rest of the nations of the Americas, it has challenges to overcome, but that it has always been a fundamental actor in the fields of journalism, the defense of freedom of expression and democracy. That is why, with great conviction, I propose that our next biannual meeting be held in the city of Mérida, in the prosperous and beautiful state of Yucatán. In this entity in the southeast of Mexico you will be able to appreciate the splendor of the Mayan culture and take time to move to the legendary city of Chichén Itzá, cultural and political center of the ancient civilization, current World Heritage Site and one of the Wonders of the World. besides that they will receive the warmth and attention of the Yucatecans”, concluded the new president of the GDA.
