Józef Kubica from the State Forests before the EU plans: They will lead to a catastrophe

Leaving large forest areas in Europe untouched by human hands is an aberration, and the implementation of the EU forestry strategy will lead to a catastrophe – says Józef Kubica, acting director general of the State Forests, in the Friday “Puls Biznesu”.

When asked about the sale of timber from the State Forests next year, Kubica emphasized that the final decisions have not been made yet, but it will be less than this year. He added that analyzes of the current timber sales system are underway. As he noted, currently 80 percent. of the timber sold was a pool for entrepreneurs who could demonstrate a history of wood purchase, and the remaining 20 percent. it was available to everyone.

We have been asked to change these proportions to 70 and 30 percent.

—He informed.

The acting director general of the State Forests was asked if the State Forests are financially and organisationally prepared to implement the EU forestry strategy.

You are asking about disaster preparedness, because the EU plan will lead to it. Great forest areas across the country will have to remain untouched by human hands, and that is an aberration these days. It is enough to mention the creation of a huge fire hazard – without the possibility of active fire protection, with drastically reduced funds for such activities, fires will rage throughout the country. Not to mention the breakdown of LP integrity

-He said.

He stated that the EU “would have to contribute to the high costs of implementing this strategy”.

There are 26 thousand employees in the State Forests. employees, and together with the wood and periton industry, it is over 400 thousand. people. And yet the wood deficit will ultimately affect many more industries

– said Kubica.

He stressed that “aging tree stands in Europe show a declining tendency to absorb CO2” and the new EU regulations must mean “drastic restrictions for forest management, mainly in the field of logging, and the need to offset emissions in other sectors”.
