Raymond van Barneveld will play in the third round tonight. The five times world champion faces Gerwyn Price, the world number one and, like Barney, a former world champion. The party starts around 21:30. The evening session will be closed by defending champion Peter Wright. Snakebite competes with Belgian Kim Huybrechts for a place in the last sixteen of the PDC World Championship.
The absolute cracker of the afternoon session was between Rock and Aspinall. The match went to a deciding seventh set.
Rock appeared to give up the 2-0 lead, but Aspinall missed three darts on doubles moments later to make it 2-2. With a finishing 70, the Northern Irishman secured it Rockythe number 47 in the world, before the elimination of the Englishman The SPtwo-time World Cup semifinalist.
Rock faces Jonny Clayton in the Round of 16. The ferretseventh in the world rankings, 4-1 in sets too strong for Northern Irish Brendan Dolan, number 26 in the world.
It was surprising that a deciding fifth leg was needed in each set. So Clayton was the best four times out of five. The Welshman led 3-0, Dolan did something in return, but with a final 116 Clayton won.
Dimitri Van den Bergh reached the round of 16 of the PDC World Championship for the fourth time in his career. The 28-year-old Belgian, number 15 in the world, has had few problems with Poland’s Krzysztof Ratajski, who is three places down in the standings PDC Order of Merit: 4-1.
The dream maker, as Van den Bergh’s nickname says, has never made it past the quarter-finals at Alexandra Palace. That round was the final stop in both 2018 and 2020. In the next round of this edition, Van den Bergh awaits the winner of the match between his compatriot Kim Huybrechts and Scottish titleholder Wright.
