Josef Marketz is ordained the new Carinthian bishop

Josef Marketz will be ordained 66th Bishop of the Gurk-Klagenfurt Diocese on Sunday. The ceremony begins at 2:00 p.m. in Klagenfurt Cathedral. More than 1,000 spectators are expected in and around the cathedral, including numerous people from church, public life and politics. The consecration will be carried out by Salzburg’s Archbishop Franz Lackner.

Josef Marketz has previously headed Caritas in Caritas

The 64-year-old Carinthian Slovenian Marketz previously headed Caritas Caritas. He succeeds Alois Schwarz, who became bishop in St. Pölten a year and a half ago. The ORF broadcasts the ceremony live on television and on the radio, and can also be followed on the Internet.
