The youth cyclist, José Rodríguez, prepares at the Legado Videna headquarters to compete in the Sucre 2024 Bolivarian Youth Games in Bolivia.

The youth cyclist, national sub-17 track champion, José Rodríguez Manrique (16 years old) is getting ready to compete in the Sucre 2024 Bolivarian Youth Games that will take place in Bolivia from April 4 to 14 of this year in search of a medal for our country.

Thanks to the excellent condition of the velodrome, José trains in this facility in track and road cycling events. He lives in Puente Piedra, the distance does not discourage him, on the contrary, he maintains enthusiasm in his practices, even more so because he is accompanied by his mentor: his father José Luis Rodríguez, who was national champion in 2009 .

I started on a small bicycle on the sidewalk, I fell and I told myself how I’m not going to be able to drive, I decided to make it, I told myself I have to do it; After the falls, I got up myself and started walking the streets in Puente Piedra,” said José Rodríguez.

Our cycling promise comments that thanks to sport he was able to change his life “cycling made him lose weight because at 14 years old he weighed 86 kilos,” he highlights. Today, her overweight has been overcome with the sport that is her passion and she is preparing for the first Bolivarian Youth Games Sucre 2024, in Bolivia.

“These are my first Bolivarian Games, I will compete on the road, in reality I do both track and road, before I was in an evaluation and I was one of the best and I qualified. I come to Legado to run in the velodrome, previously they helped me with accommodation in La Videna, Legado is my second home, the food is very good,” said Rodríguez.

Our youth cyclist participated in the 2022 National Youth Road Championship, which took place in Pisco where he obtained 3rd Place in the U17 Men’s category and last year the national title.

“Cycling is the sport that I liked from the first moment, even though I tried other sports like soccer, I stick to my thing,” he concludes.

The national youth delegation will compete in Sucre from April 4 to 14, with around 200 athletes and it will be the first time that the Bolivarian Youth Games are held.
