Yamaha Motor Europe announced Jonathan Rea will join the Pata Yamaha Prometeon WorldSBK team in 2024.

The official announcement was made by the Pata Yamaha team on Monday (4/9) evening. Rea will partner Andrea Locatelli in the World Superbike race (WSBK) next year after signing a contract for 2 years.

Thus Rea filled the position of Toprak Razgatlioglu, who had previously confirmed joining the BMW Motorrad team next year.

“We are very pleased to welcome Jonathan to the Yamaha family and we are very motivated to collaborate with him in the future. We both have the same motivation to win, and the same passion about WorldSBK,” said President and CEO of Yamaha Motor Europe Eric de Seynes.

“Just as we have also been world champions in recent years and we want to continue being at the top again,” he added as quoted from the official release Yamaha World SBK.

De Seynes also thinks that Rea has the ability to win another title next season when working with a tuning fork team that relies on the Yamaha R1 motorbike.

Rea is the most successful racer in the WSBK event by winning six consecutive titles from 2015 to 2020. After that, Rea ranked second in the 2021 WSBK and ranked third last year.

In his career at WSBK, Rea has never ridden a Yamaha motorbike. Previously, Rea raced Honda from 2008 to 2014 and has been Kawasaki’s mainstay since 2015 until now.
