“Jokowi to Give Prizes to U-22 Indonesian National Team for winning Gold Medal in 2023 SEA Games Football in Cambodia”

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – President Joko Widodo confirmed that he would give prizes to the U-22 Indonesian national team which won a gold medal in the 2023 SEA Games football in Cambodia.

Jokowi said the prize was given because Indonesia had long been waiting for the SEA Games gold medal from the football branch which was last won in 1991.

“We will think about the prize later, but we will give it later, because all Indonesian people have really been waiting for this, it has been 32 years,” said Jokowi, Tuesday (16/5/2023), quoted from the YouTube Presidential Secretariat.

Jokowi also congratulated all the players and officials who managed to bring home gold medals from Cambodia.

Jokowi stated that this success was the result of years of hard work and continuous competition.

He also admitted that he was very happy because Indonesia managed to beat a strong team, Thailand, with a score of 5-2 in the final, last Tuesday.

“The winning mentality, the winning mentality is very visible. Playing without mental burdens, but we have been waiting 32 years to become champions in Southeast Asia, we have been waiting for 32 years,” said Jokowi.

Meanwhile, Jokowi watched the final match against Thailand at the Medan mayor’s official residence, on the sidelines of his working visit to Medan, North Sumatra.

According to him, the match went extraordinary because it was marked by many goals, he even “fooled” when the referee blew the whistle which was thought to signal the end of the match.

“Screaming for every goal, shouting, jumping up and down, you saw it with Paspampres, jumping up and down screaming. Earlier, 2-2 earlier, all of them were still playing, but thank God, we are still grateful,” said Jokowi.
