Jokowi Meets Putin, Greeted With a Friendly Smile

President Joko Widodo meet with President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, Russia.

Jokowi arrived at the Kremlin Palace on Thursday (30/6) at around 15.30 local time and immediately held a meeting tete-a-tete with President Putin in the State Ceremony Room of the Kremlin Palace.

Jokowi’s presence was greeted by Putin’s friendly smile. Both of them were wearing black suits.

The closeness of the two leaders was also evident when talking in the reception room for state guests, the Kremlin Palace. The closeness can be seen from the less than one meter long table that separates the two.

During the meeting, Jokowi said he had conveyed a message from Zelensky to Putin. Jokowi asked for dialogue space for Ukraine-Russia to immediately resolve the problems of the two countries.

“As I said in Kyiv, although the current situation is still very difficult, I still convey that it is important that a peaceful settlement be put forward and that spaces for dialogue can continue to be opened,” Jokowi said at a press conference in Russia Thursday (30/30). 6).

Jokowi said he was ready to be a bridge for peace between Ukraine and Russia.

“I have conveyed President Zelensky’s message to President Putin and I conveyed my readiness to become a communication bridge between the two leaders,” Jokowi said at a press conference in Russia Thursday (30/6).

Jokowi claimed to have discussed with Putin regarding the availability of food and fertilizer from Ukraine and Russia.

“I had many discussions and emphasized that food and fertilizer are humanitarian issues. It is in the interest of the world community and hundreds of people are affected by the disruption of the food and fertilizer supply chain, especially in developing countries,” Jokowi explained.

“I really appreciate President Putin who said earlier that he provided security guarantees for food and fertilizer supplies from both Russia and Ukraine. This is good news,” he continued.

This meeting is part of Jokowi’s diplomatic safari to press for peace between Russia and Ukraine, which are still at war.

Prior to Russia, Jokowi also visited Ukraine on Wednesday (29/6). During the visit, Jokowi met with President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During this series of visits, Jokowi also emphasized the issue of food security, especially since the battle between Russia and Ukraine has triggered crises in various parts of the world.

In addition, observers think that through this series of visits, Jokowi also wants to save the G20 high-level conference in Bali in November.
