Jokowi: Fuel prices in Indonesia are much cheaper because the government continues to hold back All

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com President Joko Widodo said that the government is still working hard to prevent the price of Pertalite fuel from rising from Rp 7,650 per liter.

According to him, fuel prices in Indonesia are still much cheaper than other countries.

“In Singapore, the price of fuel is now 32,000, Germany has reached 31,000, Thailand 20,000, we Pertalite are still 7,650, again Rp 7,650. Pertamax is 12,500. Others (prices) are far away,” said Jokowi at the Affirmation Action Proud Made in Indonesia. at the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC), Tuesday (24/5/2022).

Jokowi said that the price of gasoline in Indonesia is still relatively low because the government continues to hold back the increase.

Jokowi said this effort was not easy because at the same time the energy subsidies from the state budget that the government had to bear were also getting bigger.

“When can we hold back, how long can we hold this in, this is our job together,” said Jokowi.

“So I ask ministries/agencies, local governments, to once again have sense the same one. It’s heavy, holding down prices like that is hard,” he said.

In the energy sector, Jokowi said the government was also holding back on rising gas and electricity prices. Apart from that, food prices are also trying to be restrained.

Rice for example, in Indonesia the price is still Rp 10,700 per kilogram. This figure is claimed to be much cheaper than other countries, which have risen by 30-40 percent, even surpassing the 60 percent mark.

The spike in the prices of these goods causes inflation to rise. America, where inflation has never increased more than 1 percent, is now at 8.3 percent.

The increase in inflation in Turkey has even reached almost 70 percent.

Reflecting on several countries, Jokowi is grateful that inflation in Indonesia is still at 3.5 percent.

“But because we are holding Pertalite, holding gas, holding back electricity, so we include it in the price of the economy, surely our inflation will follow, go up,” said Jokowi.

The President said that the situation was difficult for all countries recently. Once the coronavirus pandemic is over, every country should plan for economic recovery.

However, global uncertainty persists. Not to mention, plus the never-ending war between Russia and Ukraine.

He also warned his staff to use the budget appropriately.

“Our APBN, our APBD, the budget in BUMN, we really have to hold on tight so that the utilization can really focus on the point we are aiming for. Because the money is very big, very big,” said the head of state.
