“Johnson and Johnson”: Vaccination against Covid-19 every year

The company’s chief executive says this will be needed to achieve long-term “collective immunity”

Immunization against Covid-19 will not be one-time, but annual, it became clear from the statement of one of the vaccine manufacturers.

Johnson & Johnson (J&J) CEO Alex Gorski expressed his belief that people will need to receive additional doses of Covid-19 vaccine along with that of seasonal flu over the next few years.

Speaking at the Tech Health conference of the Wall Street Journal, Gorski said such actions would be needed as long-term “collective immunity” is needed, BNR reported.

With 50 percent vaccine coverage among the population, up to 70 percent prevention of hospitalizations is expected because of COVID-19. This was stated by representatives of the Regional Office of the World Health Organization / WHO / for Europe during an online meeting, the press service of the Ministry of Health announced.

During the forum, attention was drawn to the need to continue to focus on vaccinating people over the age of 60, the chronically ill, and health care workers. The goal is to achieve 80 percent vaccination coverage against COVID-19 in these priority groups.

An example of a successful immunization campaign was Germany, where 77 percent of people over 60 and 75 percent of health care workers were vaccinated with a single dose, and 85 percent of those living in nursing homes had a completed vaccination course.

The WHO Regional Office presented various opportunities to support the Member States of the region in improving the perception of vaccines by the population.

The meeting was organized by the National Health Programs Directorate of the WHO Regional Office for Europe. It was attended by over 100 representatives of the 53 member states of the Europe region.
