“John Heitinga frontrunner for Ajax’s new trainer position”

John Heitinga has the best papers to become Ajax’s new trainer. According to De Telegraaf reporter Valentijn Driessen, it even seems to be a foregone conclusion, because Peter Bosz is not considered suitable by Edwin van der Sar, among others.

Heitinga is currently doing the honors after Alfred Schreuder’s resignation. Ajax captain Dusan Tadic will give a flaming speech on Tuesday for the former international, who can give his chances an even greater boost by leading the team from Amsterdam to second place in the Eredivisie and winning the KNVB Cup.

Heitinga does not seem to have to fear competition from Bosz. ‘Heitinga is also prepared to move along with the new course. With the new faces and Van der Sar, it would have been agreed by now that Peter Bosz is not eligible for a return to the Johan Cruijff Arena as head coach. While Mislintat wanted to get Bosz to VfB Stuttgart sooner’, Driessen writes in his column The Telegraph.

‘In his experience, however, Van der Sar is convinced that the former coach of Ajax (2016-2017) is not the right man for the club’, Driessen continues. “That’s why he lives under the assumption that he doesn’t have to step over his shadow at all when the controversy between him and Bosz from six years ago is cited.” At the time, Bosz clashed with some assistants, including Dennis Bergkamp. Van der Sar chose Bergkamp’s side, after which Bosz left for Borussia Dortmund.

Driessen wonders whether the Ajax DNA is secured with the new faces in the organization. Pier Eringa and Jan van Halst are new members of the supervisory board, while Sven Mislintat will be the new director of football affairs. Maurits Hendriks also has a big finger in the pie as Chiefs Sports Officer. Together with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and Edwin van der Sar, they will set the course in Amsterdam.
