Johan Derksen’s Opinion on Klaas-Jan Huntelaar’s Burnout at Ajax

Johan Derksen thinks he knows the real reason behind Klaas-Jan Huntelaar burnout

Johan Derksen responded in Today Inside to the burnout that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is currently experiencing. It was announced on Friday that Ajax’s technical manager had reported sick to the Amsterdam club. Huntelaar, who has a contract in the Johan Cruijff ArenA until mid-2027, has mainly been concerned with youth contracts in recent months.

While René van der Gijp and Hélène Hendriks mainly show pity, Johan Derksen responds quite firmly. “This is dissatisfaction and annoyance! That boy has all the knowledge you need for that profession and then a German (Sven Mislintat, ed.) comes along and completely shuts him out.”

Derksen thinks that Huntelaar was not happy with his new duties. “He can join Jong Ajax and that German only makes bad deals.” Hendriks counteracts. “I can’t imagine that you would give this out as a reason that you have a burnout, while you are actually just dissatisfied. I just don’t believe that!”

The Mustache catches up again. “I think you can also get a burnout from dissatisfaction and annoyance. I also get a burnout from this program,” Derksen jokes. Hendriks thinks differently. “It’s just annoying, it could be anything. The pressure at Ajax is high, no matter how you look at it, in every position.”

Derksen continues to stand by his argument. “If you are an introvert in terms of character… All that misery comes into you, then you go to the doctor and that man finds that you have a burnout and need to take a break.” Hendriks believes that Derksen thinks too lightly about it. “A burnout is not something you can just take a break from. That is really intense, you can get so many complaints from it. That is not something that is simply said.”

Van der Gijp feels sorry for Huntelaar. “You often set the bar too high…” Table guest Eveline Stallaart, psychologist and sexologist by profession, explains. “Things go wrong on many different fronts, it’s not just at work. People often think that. It can also be in all kinds of other areas, at home for example. Sometimes it becomes too much. This is often the sign of a burn -out that your body is going to sound the alarm.”

Football talk
Huntelaar’s burnout was also briefly discussed in Voetbalpraat on Friday evening. Kees Kwakman has sympathy for the former top striker. “He joined at a time when things have been quite hectic. I especially hope that he will recover, because this doesn’t seem nice to me.”
