NEW YORK (Dagbladet): Various American media reports it, among others Washington Post And New York Times.
The White House confirms the investigation and says it is cooperating with the Justice Department. They also say they quickly sent the documents to the National Archives when they became known.
A source informs it CBS News that we are dealing with about ten classified documents.
Found in November
The documents were found in Biden’s Washington DC office at the Penn Biden Center think tank in early November.
Earlier, Attorney General Merrick Garland had appointed Special Investigator Jack Smith to lead the investigation into the hundreds of classified documents the FBI had seized from former President Donald Trump’s home. Those documents were said to have been flown there from the White House after Trump lost the 2020 presidential election.
New smell
Documents with Biden were said to have been found when his lawyers came out of a locked cabinet to release a clearing of offices that Biden used sporadically from mid-2017 until the 2020 presidential campaign.
Similarity features
Garland has now asked a Northern District of Illinois state attorney, John Laushc, to oversee the scrutiny of Biden’s records. Lausch was also nominated by then President Trump.
– Trump is indicted
The disclosure of the Biden documents bears striking similarities to the Trump documents at Mar-a-Lago. But information from Biden’s attorney Richard Sauber also points to clear differences.
Sauber claims, among other things, that Biden’s documents were discovered by the president’s own lawyers and voluntarily handed over to the national archives. Trump, for his part, defied the subpoenas and hundreds of documents were seized when the FBI finally had to search his home.
Biden didn’t respond when reporters yelled at him questions about documents during a meeting in Mexico City on Monday night, reports say Cnn.
