JOB: 6 PhD positions in GRK 2212 “Dynamics of Conventionality (400-1550)”, Cologne (06/30/2022) | H-German Studies

On October 1, 2022, the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Cologne will write “Dynamics of Conventionality (400–1550)” as part of the graduate college 2212.

6 PhD positions

for a period of three years. The monthly fee includes 65% TV-L 13.

The college examines the dynamics of conventionality from late antiquity to the early modern period from an interdisciplinary perspective. Under the guiding concept of convention, phenomena such as habit, regularity, tradition and habitualization are questioned with regard to their inner dynamics. The subjects involved are history, German studies, philosophy, art history, Byzantine studies, medieval Latin philology and musicology. Applicants for doctoral positions are required to have an excellent university degree in one of the subjects involved in the college and a clearly profiled medieval focus. The following application documents must be submitted in one PDF document:

– An expert opinion on the professional suitability of a university teacher.

6 doctoral positions

for a period of three year starting on 1st October 2022 within the framework of the Research Training Group 2212 “Dynamics of Conventionality (400–1550)”. The monthly remuneration for the doctoral positions amounts to 65 % TV-L 13.

The research training group conducts research from an interdisciplinary perspective into the dynamics of conventionality from late antiquity to the early modern era. Under the overarching motto of convention, phenomena such as custom, regularity, tradition, and habitualisation are examined in order to understand their inner dynamics. The disciplines involved are history, German philology, philosophy, art history, medieval Latin philology, Byzantine Studies and musicology. The research training group offers a structured doctoral programme that is integrated interdisciplinarily and internationally. An excellent university degree in one of the subjects covered by the research training group and a clearly recognisable focus on medieval studies are prerequisite for applicants for the doctoral positions. Please submit the following documents in one pdf-file as part of your application:
